I'm reading the CIA Simple Sabotage Field Guide, and it's altogether an amazing work, but this is my absolute favorite part:

"Anyone can break up a showing of an enemy propaganda film by putting two or three dozen large moths in a paper bag. Take the bag to the movies with you, put it on the floor in an empty section of the theater as you go in and leave it open. The moths will fly out and climb into the projector beam, so that the film will be obscured by fluttering shadows."

@rostiger @tty Use a bowline whenever you want a knot to Not Move, i.e. the opposite of a slip knot. Also when you're trying to grab a closed circle or hole i.e. the opposite of a post or peg. Now i understand why this was useful in your (@tty) case.

@tty i thought i did, and i love bikes, but tbh my bike is usually very reliable. 🤞

When you don’t create things, you become defined by your tastes rather than ability. Your tastes only narrow and exclude people. so create.

rant

once again upset about how techbros push to abstract away the internals of "artificial intelligence"

no matter how much you abstract it its still math! math can't make independent and moral decisions!! the decisions your model will make are a proxy for the input data it was fed and the way it was programmed!! you can't make strict math sentient!

Give me good design or the detailed vestiges of aging: a patina, a history, an unfolding process clear to the eye or fingers. I have no time for this "new world", a lie that denies its past yet supports a present devoid of care. Maybe my ears have tolerated this emphemera, ever indulging the new and the transitional. Still the wind grows thin & cold. Time for a storm?
